Not obsolete. Still common place on inexpensive radios, especially clock radios. Also still practiced in long distance short wave listening or DX ing, due to “atmospherics” that drift the frequency.
Agree, not obsolete. Vastly cheaper than digi radios which can give inferior sound to a good FM station, particularly in the car on a long journey.
