Toshiba officially dropped their HD-DVD format at 5pm Tokyo Time, February 19th, 2008. This ended the “format war” between HD-DVD and its competing format, backed largely by Sony, Blu-Ray Disc (officially abbreviated “BD”).
While there is no longer any need to assess the relative merits of both formats, arguments continue to rage in various skirmishes across the Internet, and are expected to do so until approximately February 19th, 2028.
