This used to be on signs in most video rental stores. They asked when you finished watching a movie (etc...) on video tape to rewind it back to the beginning. This way when you returned it and the next person rented the same tape, they could just start watching the movie.
Went into blockbuster the other day to return a DVD, I apologized for not rewindnig it first. I was assured by the attendant that he would take care of that for me.
