How can figuring sales tax be obsolete if we still have sales taxes?
PiRat? says: I think what the site is referring to is the need to calculate sales tax in your head before checking out. If your paying with cash and your budget is limited it may be necessary to calculate sales tax to figure out if you have enough money. Also even if you have ample money you may wish to calculate sales tax to make making change easier for the clerk. The methods of doing this are numerous but all are pretty much obsolete. Small calculators are extremely cheap theses days so if you do have to calculate sales tax you should have one of them. However, these days almost everyone has a debit or credit card, instead of having to calculate sales tax you can guesstimate the tax and sort the pennies out later.
