FieldComputer
Went ObsoleteIn the 1990s (released in the eighties or so)
Made Obsolete ByBy scroll wheels and mice
Knowledge AssumedHow to clean the trackball, how to use the trackball correctly, and how to utilize a trackball.
When usefulA few computers today still use trackballs, like the one I am using. When faced with a computer such as mine, it is necessary to know how to use one. Also, track balls are more precise (which is amazing, because mice are very precise) and do not suffer from jerkiness when Circle Strafing (in video games).

Track balls require the movement of your thumbs rather than your hand, and as such, is less prone to ache. The movement and rotation of your thumb on the ball allows the mouse to move up or down. The upwards rotation of the ball moves the mouse up, the downward rotation of the ball moves the mouse down, and the same for right and left rotations.
