Whipping Cream With A Whisk

Field Cooking
Went Obsolete 1967
Made Obsolete By Cool Whip and rapidly declining sense of taste
Knowledge Assumed None, requires arm strength or electric mixer
When useful Cooking from scratch, whenever you want to make a fancy homemade dessert

Go to the grocery store and buy some whipping cream. Put it and a bowl in the fridge until cold, then pour as much cream as you like into the bowl. Use a whisk to swish it around rapidly, making bubbles in the process. Continue doing this (the burning feeling in your arm is normal) until the cream begins to thicken. At this point pay attention to the consistency because it will keep getting thicker the more you agitate it. Stop once you're happy with it, and enjoy with strawberries or in a milkshake.

Adding a small am't of vanilla extract and superfine sugar is highly recommended. Recipes are easily available. Additionally, this skill is still very common in certain parts of Europe and Scandinavia.
