Non-WYSIWYG word processing that allowed you to set exactly what you wanted in one control document. It was the first to meet widespread business acceptance, and was the defacto standard on CP/M machines. In the later half of the 1980s, Word Perfect displaced Wordstar, as it offered many new features and a more modern interface that allowed for things such as moving the text cursor with the arrow keys. Wordstar's text-editing and cursor movement commands linger on in certain *nix text editors.
