A contemporary definition of calligraphic practice is "the art of giving form to signs in an expressive, harmonious and skillful manner". * The skill of using Calligraphy is **not** obsolete. Invitations, such as for a wedding, and the like utilize calligraphy all the time. For one example, with thousands of weddings each year using envelopes that are hand-addressed using Calligraphy, it can hardly be said it is obsolete or only used in "rare" situations.
