====== Reading Logarithm Tables ====== | **Field** | Mathematics | | **Went Obsolete** | With the advent of computers and calculators | | **Made Obsolete By** | Computers and calculators | | **Knowledge Assumed** | How to find the right row and columnn on the table | | **When useful** | When you have a log table and no computer or calculator | Calculating a logarithm being something beyond most people's mental abilities, and they being required for so many types of calculations, tables were generated which allowed the reader to scan the rows and columns to find the square corresponding to the number in question and read off the logarithm. The reverse process would then generate the antilog.
