When useful To navigate vertically in a computer document

Before the advent of the mousewheel, scrolling down computer documents required the user to point and click on the arrows located around the vertical scrollbar. Nowadays, the scrollbar is merely an indicator of the size and current position in the document, as people use mouse wheels to scroll up and down documents.
