Place the rails and the “nose bone” and “tail bone” on the skateboard where you want them. Hold down with tape.
Push a thin tipped black felt marker through the holes in the rails so that it makes a mark on the skateboard. This marks where your holes will be drilled.
Remove the rails and bones.
Drill 3/16” holes where the pen marks are on your skateboard.
You can use the cheaper round aluminum nut plates, but these tend to break during gnarly rail slides. The more expensive hexagonal steel ones are better.
Put the nut plates in the holes through the top of the skateboard.
Put the screws through the rails or the bones and screw into the nutplates.
If you are using the aluminum nut plates, these will tend to spin as you are turning the screws. Press down HARD on the top of the nutplate while turning the screwdriver. The hexagonal steel nutplates had bonus of sinking into the wood and preventing this turning.
