This skill is useful only when a word related to the topic of interest is known and correctly spelled. The user looks for a keyword, bearing in mind that all entries are in alphabetical order and may are cross-referenced. This process is repeated until the reader's questions are answered.
Crossword-solvers and Scrabble-players might feel that this skill is not obsolete.
