As we all recall, UUCP uses post-order adressing (decvax!ucbvax!eric) the same way as DECnet does (DECVAX::INGER::ODIN::TAGE). The problem is that the newer style addresses are pre-order (eric@CS.Berkeley.EDU). In the transition period, which lasted several years, you needed to support both styles (pud!psl@bellcore.bellcore.com). This required sendmail.cf files to be written from scratch. It is unlikely that this hard to acquire skill will ever again be needed.
