sendmail-cf

Field Internett
Went Obsolete 1995
Made Obsolete By Introduction of the M4 processor
Knowledge Assumed Advanced pattern-matching, recursive programming, very brittle syntax
When useful Not only useful, cut crucial, for sending email from about 1981 until about 1995

As we all recall, UUCP uses post-order adressing (decvax!ucbvax!eric) the same way as DECnet does (DECVAX::INGER::ODIN::TAGE). The problem is that the newer style addresses are pre-order (eric@CS.Berkeley.EDU). In the transition period, which lasted several years, you needed to support both styles (pud!psl@bellcore.bellcore.com). This required sendmail.cf files to be written from scratch. It is unlikely that this hard to acquire skill will ever again be needed.
