UseNet is still a dominant force in file sharing technology. UseNet is generally more secure than it's P2P? counterparts like BitTorrent?, Kazaa, and Limewire. There are several pay services for UseNet out there, including Giganews.
Many of these pay services offer things like Enhanced Retention, Enhanced Search Functions, 256 bit SSL Encryption, etc…
UseNet will never completely die, but it has declined severely in the past 10 years.
