Grab the body of the scythe in one hand, and the upright peg sticking out of the body in the other hand. Make sure no one's standing near. Then wind up and let fly, and make sure to follow through. The best scythe cut is long and as parallel to the ground as you can make it.
This may sound strange to you, but my grandfather still uses a scythe. Not every plot of land in the world is accessible for a tractor.
I have used a scythe, though I don't need one in my current place.. They are handy, but they can give you nasty blisters.
